Motorists on both directions of Highway 8 will continue to encounter a road closure south of Taylors Falls.

Highway 8 between the north and south intersections of Highway 95 was expected to re-open to car traffic only today. However, additional rainfall has caused further deterioration of the section of road and adjacent slope.

Maintenance crews have temporarily stabilized the area of road where the deterioration had occurred. A permanent repair will occur during the Highway 8 construction project currently underway. The road is expected to reopen in October.

press releaseMotorists are advised to follow the posted detour through Osceola using Highway 95, Highway 243 and Wisconsin Highway 35.

Local residents and Wildwood Campground visitors can continue to access the area from the west end of the Highway 8 closure. Access to Interstate Park is provided from the east end of the Highway 8 closure.

The detour is not very clearly marked. I have had to help several people find their way through Taylors Falls to get back on 8. Going up Angel hill and following that through. or follow 95 seems like a better route than Osceola.

Thanks for your comment. Although it is not convenient, the detour is meant to keep traffic through town at a minimum, compared to using the Highway, especially for semi trucks. There are also still issues with spring weight restrictions on some roads and concerns about safety. Also, once major road construction begins, alternate routes through town may or may not be available, depending on the day. The detour should stay fairly consistent. Hope that helps.
